How this site works
Editorial policy
What we publish, how it is checked, what we will not do, and how the site makes money.
Who is responsible
Oliver Franklin is responsible for the accuracy of everything published on Builder Proof UK, including corrections. Guides are checked against primary UK sources before publication and reviewed at least annually.
How a guide is produced
1. Intent
Each guide starts from a single homeowner question and is written to answer that question completely, rather than to hit a word count.
2. Trade review
Every draft is checked against 38 years of on-site experience. If a claim cannot be supported by how work is actually priced and run in the UK, it does not go in.
3. Source check
Statements about statutory duties, consumer rights and Building Control are checked against primary UK sources such as GOV.UK, HSE, the Planning Portal and Citizens Advice, and those sources are linked on the page.
4. Clarity check
Plain English, British spelling, no unexplained jargon and no invented statistics, testimonials or case studies.
5. Review schedule
Guides are reviewed at least annually, and immediately when the underlying rules change. The reviewed and updated dates on each page are real.
What we will not publish
- Invented testimonials, reviews, ratings or case studies.
- Statistics or price figures we cannot attribute to a named source or to first-hand trade experience.
- Legal, structural, surveying, gas, electrical or financial advice dressed up as general guidance.
- Blanket claims that builders are dishonest. Most are not; unclear paperwork is the problem.
- Pages written purely to rank, with nothing useful on them.
Corrections
If something here is wrong or out of date, tell us and it will be corrected and the update date changed. Report a correction.
How the site makes money
The guides and tools are free. Builder Proof UK is funded by its own paid products — the downloadable Homeowner Protection Pack and the quotation review services. We do not sell leads to builders, and no builder pays to be recommended here.
Limits of this information
Builder Proof UK publishes general educational information for homeowners. It is not legal, structural, surveying, planning, electrical, gas, insurance or financial advice, and it does not replace advice from a suitably qualified professional for your specific project.
